Iron Sharpens Iron!

by FCFC

Small Groups Change Lives at Faith Christian Family ChurchSmall Groups Enhance Life

Is Proverbs 27:17 referring to Small Groups? “Iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.”

Andy Stanley, pastor of North Point Community Church, Atlanta said concerning small groups, “Church life happens in circles, not rows.” Here at FCFC, we agree! We value the way God uses us to sharpen each other in our small group fellowship. Though FCFC may not be considered a mega church, it is still easy to come to church and then leave without any real connection to others. Often people who are not naturally outgoing will feel welcomed at FCFC, and still get lost in the crowd. Small groups are a great place to extend that friendship – to meet and connect with people who share your interests and concerns.

Small Groups Take ‘Attending’ to a New Level

All of us attend church for various reasons, not the least of which is obedience. The Hebrews were admonished to “…not forsaking our own assembling together…” (Hebrews 10:25) Many of us use this scripture to get us up and to church on Sunday morning… even when we don’t feel like it! But have you ever considered that maybe if we are just going on Sunday morning, then leaving – with no real week to week connection to others – that possibly we are already forsaking the assembling together?

For some, attending small groups comes naturally, for others, it’s more difficult. But just because it isn’t ‘natural’ doesn’t give us an excuse not to try. Perhaps you have to put some effort into it to really give it a chance. A closer look at the passage in Hebrews may help our perspective. From The Message, Hebrews 10:24-25 reads, “Let’s see how inventive we can be in encouraging love and helping out, not avoiding worshiping together as some do but spurring each other on…” That’s the real reason we have small groups – to be creative about fellowship and encouragement so that we can sharpen and bless one another.

You will surely find a place to bless and be a blessing so get ready to join or lead a small group when the enrollment tables are back up in the foyer. Click this link to Check out the inventive Small Groups happening now at FCFC.
